Returning from Cuba, I immerse myself in research. I eat all the meat from the bone and look for more. The treasure had been found in Havana— I see a child had been born to Emily in 1899, in La Gloria City, Camagüey, Cuba. My family had no news of this child, so I mean to find what had happened. My search takes me to Savannah, Georgia; Fort Wayne, Indiana; Columbus, Ohio; and Washington, DC, though everything seems to indicate I must look in Massachusetts. There is no opportunity to go to Massachusetts as my husband and I are preparing to move to southwest France and there simply is no time to schedule yet another trip. In my total isolation in the French countryside, I focus on solving as many mysteries as I can from what Emily has presented. Why did Emily go to Cuba? Why did Emily leave Cuba? Who is RS? Who is Count Hubertus? What happened to her child? Who was the child’s father? And what is it that Emily wants from me?
