There is a ladder missing in this scene. It is painted red and white to be visible, but it has been taken away for some purpose, though not likely the purpose intended. When the lake is frozen, it is slid out, with a rope attached (also missing) to retrieve someone who has fallen through the ice. Here, the hooks meant to hold the ladder are made use of for clothing, the owners of which are now in the lake.
